๐Ÿ’น (English) Yu Huaโ€™s Short Story Collection

Reading *The April 3rd Incident*

๐Ÿ“– Title: The April 3rd Incident
โœ๏ธ Author: Yu Hua (My all-time favorite Chinese writer!)
๐ŸŽฏ Recommended for: Fans of Yu Hua who want to explore more of his work
๐ŸŒŸ One-line impression: Is this really the Yu Hua I know? Such a different style!

๐Ÿ“– Book Overview

This book is a collection of short stories, each standing independently.
The stories are not connected and vary in theme and tone.
Major works include The April 3rd Incident, Summer Typhoon, and Ancestor.

Each story offers its own distinct perspective and atmosphere,
providing a variety of experiences throughout the collection.

๐Ÿ’ญ Thoughts & Impressions

Yu Hua โ€” my favorite writer of all time!
Works like To Live, Chronicle of a Blood Merchant, and The Past and the Punishments have stayed with me deeply.
But this short story collection felt quite different from what Iโ€™ve come to expect from him.

The title story, The April 3rd Incident, was filled with psychological descriptions
and felt like walking through a fog โ€” unclear and elusive.

Several other stories reminded me of the style of Haruki Murakami: complex, ambiguous,
as if something significant is hidden beneath the surface, yet hard to grasp exactly what.

Still, The Death of a Landlord and Summer Typhoon brought back the Yu Hua I know and love โ€”
stories that pulled me in quickly, easy to follow and emotionally resonant.

It felt like the author wanted to say:
โ€œRepeating the same attempt every time is boring!โ€

A new direction may not always be perfect, but the courage to try deserves applause.
Thatโ€™s why Yu Hua remains, and will always be, my favorite writer. ๐Ÿ˜Š
