When thinking of novels that accuse the North Korean regime, one typically imagines horrifying stories of Aoji coal mines, political prison camps, and human rights abuses.
The title The Accusation immediately brings to mind a report-style or testimonial account of such brutal realities.
But this book takes a different path.

The Accusation is a collection of stories written by Bandi, an anonymous author currently living in North Korea, based on events he directly experienced or witnessed.
While it does criticize the contradictions and oppression of the regime, what makes this work stand out is its focus on the lives of the people within the vast North Korean system.

For instance, one story tells of the daughter of a war hero—belonging to a high social class—living in Pyongyang. Her family faces exile from the city simply because her child was afraid of a revered leader’s portrait.
